Creating a home design plan is an art in itself. A plan that serves all the necessary requirements of the home owners is a challenge to most architects. A good home design plan always creates a balance between the functions, aesthetics and economics of the home building.

The creation of a home plan begins by first carefully analyzing the requirements of the client and then creating schematic plan showing various areas and their co-relation. This type of schematic plan is sometimes called as a "bubble diagram". Here is an example of a bubble diagram for a typical home plan.

A bubble diagram is just a schematic representation of human movement pattern inside the home building when it has been built completely. the use gets a clear understanding of what and how the home will be used in future using this diagram.

Home Plan Bubble Diagram

If you look closely at this home plan bubble diagram you will notice that it has a schematic representation of various spaces normally found in a hoe plan. The size of the circles the relative are of a spaces in the home. For example the circle showing a toilet is smaller than the bedroom.

The arrows show the movement pattern between the spaces. if you see the backyard garden behind the home can be accessed from the "Living Room" as well as from "Bedroom-1". Also the "patio" is only accessible through "Living Room" and not "Bedroom-2" . An architect can easily come up with a good home plan if this kind of bubble diagram is ready with him. The diagram will change if the home owner decides to add more room or even a complete floor to the home. In that case an access to the common staircase will be added in this home plan bubble diagram.

The more detailed aspects of the home plan such as window positions and openings will come at a later stage when the basic spaces have been finalized. Also the surroundings play a major role in this. if your home plot in abutting a sea shore then the locations of relative spaces and the window openings along with enough respect to direct sunlight and wind directions have a significant importance.
